Vinyl Kitchen Flooring - Even More Distinctive and Durable Than Before!

Today's composite vinyl kitchen flooring is distinctly fashionable and extremely durable. Consider using it in your new kitchen, due to the many advantages it has over other flooring materials - price being a definite one!

Vinyl kitchen flooring comes in sheets and is made from synthetic materials such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Vinyl looks like linoleum, and it also comes in tile form. It has a smooth, glossy finish.

The Pros and Cons of Vinyl Flooring

Advantages:

  • You can get vinyl sheeting in a great array of colours and patterns. Now, there are patterns to look just like granite, polished stone, wood and many other textures. Unless you are up close, it is hard to tell the difference.
  • Vinyl is extremely hard wearing. It is excellent for high traffic areas as well as normal traffic areas.
  • Its insulation properties are very good and it is far less noisy than timber flooring or ceramic tiles.
  • Vinyl is low allergenic, so if you have young children close to the floor, they will be better protected.
  • Vinyl flooring is so easy to clean...you just use a mop and warm water.

  • Vinyl is a tough, resistant product that is not easily scratched or dented. It is stain-resistant and does retain some warmth.
  • There is a range in price; the 'newer' vinyls are a bit more costly than the more basic ones.
  • Vinyl kitchen flooring can be laid on most sub-surfaces, and doesn't require a sealant.

  • Disadvantages

  • An underlay is recommended so that the cushioning will be greater, as well as the warmth and lowered noise level.
  • It can be hard to repair, especially if there is a cut or tear in the vinyl sheet. The whole sheet may have to be replaced.
  • Vinyl is not a recyclable material.

So, if you are looking for something that is very low maintenance, affordable, unusual in color or pattern and easy to install, you should go to two or three flooring showrooms and get some quotes. Remember to check whether the price includes installation.

However, if you must have a recyclable material, then you should investigate cork, rubber, bamboo, ceramic tiles and others. Please see the webpages listed below to find out about these materials.
