Stunning Spanish Kitchens
Creating Spanish Kitchens
Spanish kitchens are very dramatic with vibrant color, the warmth of large family gatherings and timeless decor. To create this style of kitchen, you have the great advantages of being able to work with a wide variety of materials. You can use beautiful Mediterranean tiles, local timber, local pottery pitchers and bowls and of course, a great range of vibrant colors associated with the region.
Exposed ceiling beams and and stucco walls have the look of a crumbling Hacienda. Wide - plank wood and terracotta tiles give a warmth to the interior and a feeling of age and stability. What you want is to create a look that suggests that the kitchen has been there for many decades.
Leave any mantels, wood stoves and fireplaces. Add wrought iron pieces for authenticity, limewash features and distress certain furniture items.
You need large pots, urns (copper, brass, iron) candlestick holders, bowls in bold patterns and colors and racks on which to hang utensils over an island in the center.
If you don't add an island, you'll need a large wooden table at which to eat - this should be very solid and stained and grainy.
Install a large beautiful antique hanging lamp over the island or table. Leave the bulbs naked. Affix hooks onto the walls for hanging things including hats, pots, pans or wall hangings.
Wooden benches, instead of seats, can be used so that the numbers can be easily adjusted for meals. Introduce finishing touches such as herbs and wildflowers on the windowsills. Stencil a mural (vines, lemons and limes) on a bare faced wall if you have the luxury of a large area.
The atmosphere is everything here, but can be easily created because many of the accessories can be found at boot sales, or second hand furniture shops - you just need to look for them!!
