A Smart Small Kitchen Remodel is Essential !
Plan smarter!
Here we look at clever storage systems while planning a small kitchen remodel.
Clever use of slide-out systems and pull-out wire shelving can make all
the difference to small kitchen storage space.
With a strong small kitchen remodel design, and after a session of de-cluttering, you'll
feel organised, and free to get on with enjoying working and entertaining
in your kitchen.
Some steps to creating a storage system that optimizes use of space.
First, have a serious clear-out of everything in your kitchen that is a
duplicate, or that you haven't used in the last 5 years. You will never miss that french
fries gadget you bought at the fair years ago!
Remember that every spare wall space is potential small kitchen storage space - no matter
how high or low it is.
You can easily fit in small cupboards, shelving, storage racks,
or a pull-out basket system. Even the backsplash can be fitted with narrower
shelving for small items.
Under benchtops use every available free space with storage units on castor wheels,
or portable trolleys. You can put your trash bin or recycling unit under the sink, where
there is always some spare space.
This leaves you with more floor space.
There are 'dead space' areas in corners of cabinets. Use these with a carousel unit
in the cabinet and also arrange your bi-fold doors to open fully so you can access even
the furthermost corners easily.
Put narrow racks inside cabinet and cupboard doors to house cleaners, sponges, cloths etc.
Hooks can be attached anywhere to hang items from your apron to large utensils, and
even pots and pans.
These can look very 'country' hanging from a horizontal 'ladder' rack above
an island or benchtop using butcher hooks, along with some dried herbs hanging down in bunches.
Hooks can be placed behind doors and anywhere that they will be of use.
You can place a rail under the bottom of wall cabinets, or above the splashback, to
hang pans, skillets, ladles and other utensils from off butcher hooks. This way, they are all
within reach when you are busy in the kitchen, and you free up more kitchen storage space inside cabinets
and drawers.
Get everything off countertops - put your microwave on a shoulder-high built in shelf above
the countertops.
Blenders and other appliances can all go under bench to leave you preparation
space on your benchtops.
Design a pantry
wire pull-out drawers hat will store all of your items. Remember to vary
space between shelving to store various sizes like cereal boxes, stock cube boxes and little food colouring bottles.
The fridge, pantry and dishwasher can all be hidden behind cabinetry to give a tidier and more
streamlined look to your kitchen - creating a bigger space feel.
Install an extension to your benchtop that can be pulled out when the need arises, or get
a mobile island or
kitchen cart to use
as workspace and storage space when you need it. These
come in fold up form, too.
If you keep everthing neat and clutter free, your small kitchen remodel will look amazing...it needs a good
design for storage to start with and if you feel you need professional help, ask a designer to come and
give ideas for maximizing storage in your cabinets...it will be worth the cost in the end!
Remember that you want to create the illusion of a bigger space than that you actually have, too.
