Things To Watch Out For In Small Kitchen Design
Do you have a really small space for your new kitchen?
Consider small kitchen design carefully. The galley style kitchen has a layout that is most suited for small, narrow kitchen spaces.
It can be designed to maximize storage space.
The advantages of a galley style layout
It is a good choice for a rectangular space.
It makes for an efficient layout where items are placed next to where they are used.
You can adjust the galley layout to any length of space - the longer the better!
The room can be easily delineated and divided into different working areas.
The 'work triangle'
works well in this design and you have a bit of flexibility to
place appliances where you'd like. The elements can be placed anywhere along the length
of the galley, as long as you keep them grouped together. Two on one side and the third
on the opposite side centered between them, is a good idea.
Everything is within reach and as long as you keep the space uncluttered, you'll
have a very well organised kitchen.
The disadvantages of a galley style layout
One of the disadvantages of a galley kitchen (one-way) is that it is difficult for
more than one person to be in it at the same time.
In a two-way system, through traffic can cause congestion.
For a large kitchen, it isn't an efficient style of layout.
If more than one person is cooking regularly and simulataneously, this is
not a recommended choice of
layout style.
Not recommended for open floor plans as it encloses too much space in a long, thin area.
The corridor-like effect of this layout is perfect for a small kitchen as it
gives much more area for countertops without having to negotiate corners.
There can be a lot of
countertop workspace around the sink and cooking areas.
Ensure that you keep the countertops clear and the kitchen tidy, and you'll find that
your galley kitchen has great appeal and is very eye-catching with its emphasis on color, design
features, glass-fronted wall cabinets, directed task lighting and contemporary backsplash.
Small kitchen design mean more to spend on design features and you can use the latest materials and
still afford to engage a designer to show you how to maximise your available space, too!
