Portable Kitchen Islands - for Functionality, Space, Storage and Beauty...

Short of space? why not get a portable kitchen island?

They are so versatile! They give you convenience, act as a servery, storage space, ability to manoeuvre as you wish and an eating place.

Portable Kitchen Islands

There are some features to consider when choosing a movable unit:

Design

The workmanship ought to be good quality as your island will be on display with the other features of your kitchen.

It can be made to match the materials used in your new kitchen for countertops, cabinets, surfaces etc.

Be adventurous and add onto, or into, your unit all the extras you'll need, such as knife blocks, towel racks or bars, garbage dispenser...!

Type of wheels

You can have different gauges of caster wheels, depending upon the weight that the mobile unit is designed to carry.

The rolling wheels can swivel and always, at least 2 lock into place when you want the island to remain stationary.

If you would like the island to be stationary for most of the time and you don't want to move it very much, think of getting a stationary unit which sits on legs (the design can be chosen) and can be carried, if needed.

A drop-leaf panel can be very handy, if you sometimes want that extra eating or preparation space. The leaf is dropped with a hinge-folding mechanism.

Folded down, these are out of the way, adding more flexibility to your design.

Shelving

can often be adjusted to suit your needs

Materials Used

countertops in mobile units are most commonly made of granite, natural wood such as maple, stainless steel and laminate.

The cabinets underneath are made to match those of your kitchen unless you'd like a contrast! The surfaces can be painted with a distressed finish, stained or oiled wood, or laminated.

You may rather have a kitchen cart in your kitchen for true mobility and the ability to use outside as well.
