Focus on Fireplace and Mantel

For this space, the client wanted a design incorporating a neutral palette, easy care surfaces, and a sense of the countryside as this home was in the bushland of Australia.

The consultant selected a beautiful granite for the countertops to blend with the sandy tones of the floor tiles and the antique white of the cabinetry.

The mantel over the oven has been made to resemble an original fire and chimney place. The large, chunky mantelpiece is used to give height and grandeur to the scheme.

The curve in the shape of the mantel makes the eye relax after viewing straight lines, and it blends well with the scroll type decorative work under the mantel.

The clear space behind gives the same granite a place to shine and become a focal point.

Above the mantel, treasured pieces of crockery and dinnerware can be shown to good advantage.

Everything about the mantelpiece and drawers below ensures a classical look that gives an air of opulence.

This is a very large kitchen and you can just see the glass-fronted cabinets that stretch across the wall on either side of the mantel.

To maintain a contemporary and solid look, there is a farmstyle double sink in the bench to the left, and there is a large island granite combine the kitchen elements together, and superb lighting allows it to sparkle and glisten 24 hours a day.

The appliances are top notch, and the kitchen is very functional and works well ergonomically, too.
