Points to Consider Before Choosing Your Kitchen Color Design

Having trouble deciding on a kitchen color design for your renovated kitchen?

Well...if your kitchen is being remodeled for an upcoming resale of your home, you must think about who is going to buy your home, and think about what their requirements may be. This is wise - because your kitchen will then appeal to the largest number of people.

Some handy tips

  • The best rule of thumb in this case is to keep it neutral. Statistics show that the most popular colors at the moment are light greys, mocchas, lattes, taupe, antique whites and tones and hues close to these. You can make a bit more impact with your backsplash or lighting if you want to inject some bolder color into your kitchen.
  • In the kitchen, the cabinets are the biggest expanse of color. Consider the rest of the colors in the living areas adjacent to your kitchen...and don't forget the overall style of your house.

  • Other elements in the kitchen - the appliances, the countertops, the tiles and the flooring, all can either blend into the same palette, or can be used to contrast with varying colors. Think about how these will go together to enhance your ambience and atmosphere.
  • If you want to move away from the monochromatic color scheme of the present kitchen color design, you could use a bold color in your acrylic backsplash. Then you could pick up this color again with new high chairs for your kitchen island, also in acrylic. That would really be enough to highlight your design.
  • Remember to think of colors in the materials you'll use for countertops, floors, sinks and appliances. For example, granite comes in many colors and looks absolutely stunning as countertops! Here you could pick out a color in the granite to highlight elsewhere.

  • Colors should be at their darkest at the bottom of a space, and progressively get lighter towards the ceiling, which should be the lightest.
  • The color in your details such as cabinet hardware, will go a long way towards contributing to your 'look'. You could match finishes such as brushed nickel on handles or knobs, lighting fixtures and faucets. Or you could use stainless steel for these elements to pull the whole design together.
  • A natural kitchen color design is very trendy right now...with stone benchtops, wood, concrete and earthy hues. These materials and colors give a aura of solid trustworthiness, and people feel comfortable around them. They remind us of our connection with nature and show off our ways of using it in beautiful designs!
  • Often in design, less is more. In kitchen color design, the color scheme is something that should reflect your personality, but also be composed of colors that will stand the test of time and are not just the latest fad to come through...

Otherwise, your beautiful new kitchen may be outdated too soon!
