Kitchen Cabinets and Countertops - Your Focal Point?
This very trendy kitchen studio with beautiful lime green kitchen cabinets and countertops is in Manhattan.
It has 2 very striking features - cabinets and the curved feature extending from above the wall units to enclose the space beautifully.
Green and black are used for drama and contrast. In what is really a very small kitchen, it appears that there is little space to cook - however, there is a food prep area behind the countertop feature. On another wall are located the sinks and more undercounter units.
The undercabinet lighting changes the color of the green when on. Black and green in contrast serve to contract the space, while the green makes for an intensity and strength.
You may feel that the green is too strong for kitchen cabinets and countertops where so much of it is used. This is where if you are going to live in the studio and want to use the colors you like, then it is a good choice.
But if you are planning to sell the studio, it may be best to choose to choose a more neutral hue - slate grey, cashmeres or cream to contrast with the black. This is so that the kitchen will appeal to a wider market segment.
Here is a very clear example of how use of deep green can be contrasted with white to give an envelope of very strong color that will enliven the kitchen.
An 'L' shaped kitchen has a simple design of under bench units and overhead wall units, all with chrome polished handles and a benchtop of white stone.
There is a chrome toe-kick and the floor and surrounding walls are pale grey, with the backsplash featuring grey and white mosaic tiles.
The white stone appears again on the island countertop above more green units. The glossiness of the green gives a feeling of sleekness and sophistication.
A 'cool' color, green recedes from us and so makes the room appear larger. Don't forget to take a sample of the green you choose home to test in position and against artificial light!
