Teppanyaki grills may assume greater importance as a very clean and beneficial way of cooking. Moveable new age appliances will become more popular because of their ability to be moved to the area where the cooking is taking place.
Induction cooktops are increasing in popularity because of their lack of waste and good functionality. The cooktop works through a magnetic process which only activates the heat once a pan is placed onto the cooktop. Induction cooktops are easy to maintain and look good, and these two characteristics are more and more important in the new era.
'Sous vide' or vacuum cooking is likely to take a firmer hold as a method that maintains the integrity of the ingredients. The term refers to food cooked in air-tight plastic bags at a very slow temperature for a very long time (often more than 24 hours) in boiling water.
The advantages of this 60's method is that you can cook food over the weekend and then seal it and freeze it for use through the busy week. It has a great application for elderly people who are perhaps unable to cook for themselves.
There is a growing trend for people to want to have professional experiences at home with eating and drinking - hence the upward trend in coffee-pot sales!
A need to cook even faster will drive microwave technology in the kitchen, and a solar cooker desktop glass model which uses light to provide energy and can roast a side of beef in 5 minutes - crispy on the outside and sizzling red on the inside...
Limited time means that there will be a need for computer driven new age appliances with the ability to tell you what is missing from your fridge or pantry and to put an order into the local supermarket to resupply you.
The technology is and will be available, but it remains to be seen whether consumers will take this up as a benefit.
Instead of having 7 different appliances, there is talk of having a single and universal motor fitting that you can add all motor driven appliances to - processor, blender etc. and this will mean a far smaller space needed for storage in the kitchen.
