Home Kitchen Designs for Space and Light Through Materials
Use of glass in Manhattan
Home kitchen designs take into account the use of lightweight materials to separate spaces so that they can be 'seen through'.
The use of glass in this Manhattan apartment design shows how you can delineate an area without losing the sense of space that the larger area gives.
Because of its transparency, the 'kitchen' can be on view, and the floor, which continues its long sweep across the apartment, captures the kitchen as part of the whole.
Thin timber slats ensure that the glass can be shown to be there, and also continues the use of very lightweight timber material in the shelving features of the dining area.
Again, thin timber slats are used above the kitchen as a ceiling feature.
It is interesting how the contrasting more strongly colored wood of the dining table and chairs gives a slightly Oriental feel to this apartment.
Above the table shine a set of lights on a track, but further ceiling lighting throws glossy pools onto the white polished floor.
An atmosphere of high functionality, clean, crisp lines and fragile lightweight materials give a very sophisticated feel to this space.
But perhaps you'd like to inject some bold color into this layout - it is possible to do this in a very subtle and effective way.
This kitchen is for adult use only!
