Hells Kitchen TV Show
Hells Kitchen TV show (reality cookery) has enjoyed extraordinary success worldwide since the UK airing of Series 1 in 2004. This success has been largely due to the personality of Head Chef, Gordon Ramsay. Ramsay has won 12 Michelin stars and now owns and manages a series of high quality restaurants across the world.
The Hells Kitchen tv show
Hell's Kitchen is a British cookery reality show running on ITV which features prospective chefs competing with each other for a final prize. Originally, it starred 12 celebrities who were invited to the restaurant-kitchen to cater for a clientele of famous people. The show aired nightly for a fortnight to
captive audiences.
The show has had different formats and different head chefs for each season so far.
But what kind of kitchen does award-winning chef, Gordon Ramsay set up for his shows?
The kitchen-restaurants were specially constructed for the US series in studios in Southern California. The dining room area is the location of the former KCOP news studios, and living quarters for the contestants were built on behind the restaurant. People can be part of the 'audience' of the show as well as clients at the restaurant, for whom the catering is done by the contestants.
On of these guests has written about her visit in 2007 on set in the US. "The restaurant inside is more beautiful in person than on TV. High ceilings (with tons of lighting and cameras)
overlook huge mirror-paneled walls with colorful and intricate tilework." ( January 30, 2007 "Sweetpea's Lounge")
The set kitchen is a typical commercial style kitchen with work areas and appliances to match. The materials are largely stainless steel. All must be suitable for 2 teams of chefs to work together. Since the division of chefs into 2 teams, there has been one cooking station colored with high gloss bright blue tiles, and the other, with red.
You can see at first hand how these kitchens are constructed, and all the action in them(!), by going to the official website of "Hell's Kitchen".
