Health and Safety In Kitchens - Is This Evident In Yours?

Health and safety in kitchens?

Are we indulging in healthy eating? Kitchens have never been bigger, more high-tech, or more appealing spaces...

Many would argue that our trophy kitchens are underused and underpopulated.

Nutritionists report that many families are having only one meal together a week in the kitchen or dining area.

This means that, for many obvious reasons, we aren't actually cooking or preparing food very frequently in our kitchens, and so health and safety in kitchens may be at an all time low...

The advantages of balanced eating are again obvious. If we neglect to show future generations these benefits we will see an ever increasing rate of eating related diseases - diabetes, anorexia, bulimia and obesity.

We have a duty to show children how to shop for food that is nutritious, how to prepare it and how to regulate their eating habits and mealtimes so that we can avoid over-snacking and the temptation to opt for the easiest meal option, which is often not the healthiest.

And, the good eating options are not expensive if you know where to shop and how to find the best fruit and veggies - by buying at farmers' markets etc.

Everybody loves to cook from time to time! While we may not like to cook a meal every evening due to our limited time and other constraints, we can easily show our kids how to prepare easy meals, which will stand them in very good stead when they begin to live away from home.

Over weekends, teach them to read simple recipes, to cook eggs, pancakes and simple nutritious foods that they will want to eat. Then they can progress to fixing a meal every so often.

This not only teaches them good healthy eating habits, that good food is delicious, that they can be self sufficient in the kitchen, but very importantly, it will strengthen your bonds and relationships. So keep that health and safety in kitchens!

And - it's such fun!!
