A Futuristic Kitchen That Moves House With You??
The futuristic kitchen ('hyper-kitchen') may well be a moveable one!
Originally, the kitchen was for cooking and for socialising. Up until the 1040's and beyond, families ate meals together in the kitchen / dining room and the focus was on getting together and talking and eating.
Often grace was said, and the meal, carefully prepared by a 'stay-at-home' mother, was eaten in a regular and consistent way. Certainly, the evening meal was a very common family routine.
In the early 2000's, the family unit had dramatically changed, and so had the routines. Time-poor, space-constrained, and with family members all having different commitments, the evening meal was a thing of the past in the majority of households.
Now, people came and went, rushing from one activity to the next, with barely time to talk, let alone enjoy a lengthy meal together without interruption.
The futuristic kitchen may well be a carefully designed space that is so designed that it can be moved from one home to the next.
This will mean that no longer will families have to 'inherit' other peoples' kitchens, but will be able to take their own one - a mobile one, where the elements can be set up in a variety of situations to suit the family's needs.
What will this futuristic kitchen look like??
Well, it may consist of units for water, electricity and gas that can be moved form place to place - even if that is just from the inside to the outside entertaining area of a house.
The whole unit will be capable of being set up in another appropriate place with the minimum of fuss and bother.
Therefore, the need for a 'kitchen' space per se, will fall away - the kitchen will be put where it is convenient at the necessary time.
Is this heralding the 'death' of the kitchen as we know it?
The kitchen will continue to be of great importance.
It may just be that it isn't a room, but more a concept - 'the hub', as in days gone by, around which the rest of the home revolves.
