Feng Shui In The Home
Feng shui in the home is relatively easy and inexpensive to do...
Luckily, if you are wanting to create your new kitchen layout in feng shui mode,
the traditional feng shui
kitchen layout follows our western modern idea of a layout centered around the
'work triangle'.
This is an
imaginary triangle drawn between the 3 high-use work spaces of the sink, fridge and
oven or stove. Neither
of these areas should be more than 6 feet or so, away from another. The idea is to
maximize convenience and minimize
walking distance.
It is important that the cook is in a controlling and confident position when at
the stove. He should be facing the door
so as to protect his back from attack...if this is not possible, some feng shui
consultants suggest that you
have something reflective, such as mirror tiles or a metallic surface on the wall
behind the stove to correct
this feature.
You could design an island for your kitchen that had a cooktop integrated into the
countertop and an oven below.
This would allow the cook to see the whole living area, including the doorway.
Besides
being an important feng shui in the home
principle, it is becoming trendy and sensible to have an island at which the cooking is
done...in this way you
can keep an eye on the kids homework, see snippets of television as you work, be
included in the domestic chatter
and talk to dinner guests.
The cook is no longer isolated. There are many advantages
to designing a cooking island!
As fire and water are 'bitter rivals' in feng shui, place the sink and the stove
apart...not beside or directly
opposite one another. This may lead to household conflict. If this isn't possible -
place a green plant between them.
You could also 'hide' the fridge and dishwasher behind cabinet fronts...this would be
the same as creating
an integrated kitchen. For more about this, see kitchen trends - the 'integrated kitchen'.
In your kitchen layout, if possible, eat in a separate dining area - the slower and calmer energy here
will nurture the richness of life.
The chi in the kitchen is considered too strong and fast moving to be beneficial.
However, if you can create a
separate sitting area in the kitchen by delineating the space with cabinets or
furniture, and by using calming,
neutral colors and materials...this will be in accordance with principles of feng shui in the home , too.
Microwave ovens are seen as harmful due to emissions of electromagnetic energy.
Avoid using one if possible, but if you
really want it, hide it on a built-in shelf so that only the face is visible. Or you
could put it in a corner
where it would be ruled by fire. This would control its energy.
Create a comfortable seating arrangement in your kitchen layout ...everyone should be
comfortable to promote love and harmony.
Make sure that the plumbing is working efficiently...no leaks. This could mean
that your wealth (water) is draining away.
The stove is believed to be a wealth center. Use all burners equally so as to
ensure you are using all of your
'financial resources' effectively. The burners should be used often and be kept in good
working order.
The more warm, welcoming, efficient and clean your kitchen is, the healthier you and
your family are. Feng shui in the home makes a lot of practical sense!
