Feng Shui Elements In The Kitchen
Learn about Feng shui elements for use in your kitchen.
In Ancient China, kitchen placement was in the eastern segment of the home. The breezes
were considered to 'help
keep the charcoal fires alight". The Southeast also symbolises 'richness of life',
prosperity, health and
satisfying family relationships. An added bonus!
Each sector of the compass is governed by a natural element.
The East is governed by the element wood. This means that wooden surfaces and
colors are best in this space.
You may use wooden flooring, benchtops and surfaces. Colors should be timber hues -
yellows and
reds also are considered beneficial here.
The South is ruled by the element fire - and so wood and earth are useful in a
kitchen placement in this sector..
Your design might include wooden cabinets and cupboards, timber, terracotta or stone
flooring, and wood or stone
work countertops.
(Any type of stone would be useful.) Stoney colors, earthy hues or natural tones would
go well here.
Wood and metal govern the Northerly kitchen placement. Metallic tiles and sheets for
splashbacks and countertops,
wooden countertops and flooring, cabinets of wood with stainless steel appliances would
all be beneficial.
The Western sector is ruled by the feng shui elements of earth and metal. Your area should
include earty tones and hues,
stone countertops such as granite or marble, metallic or mirror backsplashes, copper
sinks, lots of grey, cream
and silver,
with terracotta or stone tiles on the floor.
A Northwest or Southwest sector kitchen placement takes on the Western principles. The
most auspicious sector of all, the
Southeast, is ruled by the feng shui element of wood. You could design some great features
focusing on wood as the main
element in your plan.
A few handy tips:
If you are remodeling your kitchen, it is often difficult to relocate it in another
area of the home, but if
you can
do this easily and want to create a feng shui kitchen from the placement stage, then
consider kitchen placement in the South or Southeastern region of your home, and you will be off to a
very good start in
creating a room of harmony and balance!
If your kitchen is staying where it is and that is near the entrance of your home,
don't despair!
You can
decorate the entrance to it with something you consider beautiful...the principle being
that people should feel
uplifted
when entering a room and that they will experience positive energy from this.
Colors representing the fire element such as red, purple or pink, should never be
used in this space, since these
colors may lead to disharmony and arguments in households.
Instead use colors such as
white, neutral tones such as
greys, taupe, beige, light green and blue.
