Wooden Floors - The Best Kitchen Flooring?
You may choose hardwood or softwood for your new wooden floors. Floorboards will always be popular and add value to your home while matching any decor.
Hardwood floors are undeniably one of the best kitchen flooring materials, the kitchen being a high traffic area, but there are many species that you would like to avoid, as the plantations are diminishing. However, you can find others that are quickly renewable, without being so soft as to show marks from heels and heavy furniture, as some of the softer pines are liable to do. These include Maple, Oak, Hickory and Douglas Fir. You can have boards, that slot together and are fairly easily laid, or parquetry designs. Another alternative method is to lay a thick 'floating floor' on top of the old one. This is a 3-ply piece of timber that is carefully spliced to sit on top without nailing or glueing. Its weight keeps it down and when you move you can take it with you, if you like. It can be assembled quickly and easily by the home handyman.
Go and look at showrooms and see what you like best. It really comes down to your personal situation and of course, financial resources! But, from my point of view, you really would be hard pressed to find flooring as durable and as beautiful in a natural way!
